ENZYMES
|
Dr. Edward Howell (1898-1988) was a pioneer in enzyme research in America ; his
book, Enzyme Nutrition (republished in 1985, Avery Publishing) developed
many of the basic concepts about enzyme therapy used today. As you may know, enzymes are the catalysts for every one of
your body’s functions, including brain function. Howell’s research revealed that most of us eat enzyme-depleted foods. Although every food contains, in its raw state, the enzymes needed for
digestion, food treatments such as coo king, freezing, processing, pasteurizing,
irradiation, chemical additives and so on robs natural foods of their enzymes.
Enzymes are also depleted by carbonated drinks, strenuous exercise, environmental factors, and stress. So your body must draw on its metabolic enzymes to do the jobs that digestive enzymes should be doing. When that happens, you can get sick, because your metabolic enzymes keep you healthy and in good shape. Additionally,as we age, we just have fewer enzymes in our bodies. In fact, in laboratory research, the age of laboratory insects and
animals is sometimes determined by their enzyme content! Doctors and natural healers have developed enzyme therapy to help chronic disease sufferers get better.
